Sage and Coombe Architects is a New York City, New York State, and New Jersey-certified Woman-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE). For over 30 years in New York City, Sage and Coombe Architects has delivered community-focused public projects—from libraries and schools to parks and transit spaces—through multiple Design Excellence initiatives. Their collaborative and flexible approach balances budget and context, embracing sustainability, creativity, and a sense of humor to find thoughtful, effective solutions. The brand identity was conceived to be both simple and impactful. On one hand, the choice of a grotesque typeface expresses the brand’s functional character. On the other, the logotype composition plays a key role in shaping the identity system: the negative space created between the words and the ampersand becomes the foundation for a modular design system. This modular system allows us to shape each composition with architectural intent, using invisible square grids as a guiding structure. The ampersand acts as a connector, linking the brand with its collaborators and reinforcing a cohesive visual language. The rights to this project belong to Point of Reference, where this project was created.
